James "Bruce" Bayne

Born and raised in Las Vegas, James “Bruce” Bayne has devoted his life to his family, athletics and giving back to the community.  A graduate of Western High School, Bayne attended Dixie Junior College, where he played football and received All-Conference honors his sophomore year, playing center.  He then attended UNLV, earning dual majors in Special and Physical Education in 1979.

Bayne has worked as Vice President of Peccole Nevada since February 1995.  Under the direction of Mr. Peccole and the partnership of Larry Miller, he oversaw the development and construction of Queensridge, a master planned community, as well as the integration of the Badlands Golf Course and the construction of just under a million square feet of office and retail space in the Peccole Ranch area of Las Vegas.  Currently, Bayne’s focus is now on the business development for both the Badlands Golf Course and Total Safety, Inc.

In 1982, Bruce went to work on his Masters Degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling at UNLV. During this time, he served as a Graduate Assistant under Head Coach Harvey Hyde.  He coached the inside linebackers, and had defensive scouting responsibilities.  He was a member of the Rebels staff when they won the 1984 California Bowl.

After completing his master’s degree, Bayne returned to Western High School in the fall of 1984, where he served as the defensive coordinator.  After the 1988 season Bayne entered the Peccole family business for two years and later went to Bonanza High School to serve as defensive coordinator through the 1995 season.

Bayne began his officiating career in the fall of 1975, starting with intramural games at Dixie Junior College.  From there, he went on to officiate high school and UNLV baseball games, as well as numerous NIAA baseball playoff, zone and state championships games. Bayne has also worked for the Pacific Coast League. He has also received baseball assignments from the PCAA, Big West, WAC and MWC over his thirty-year baseball career.

As a basketball official he has worked numerous divisional and zone play-off games, as well as 12 NIAA state basketball tournaments. Bayne continues to work one night a week as a basketball official. In football, Bayne has officiated games at the high school and collegiate level, including those in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  He also officiated the 2008 Outback Bowl, 2009 Sun Bowl and the 2010 Humanitarian Bowl.  Bayne is currently working as an NCAA replay official for the MWC.

Bayne has always cared about children and giving back to the community.  In addition to his assignments as teacher and coach with the Clark County School District he never missed a year of teaching the Student Leadership Class.  He also had a private counseling practice with Dr. Verdun Trione and worked in the alcohol and substance abuse field being employed at the North Las Vegas “Care Unit” and “New Beginnings” treatment facilities.

Bayne has supported numerous baseball, soccer, basketball, softball, football youth and adult teams and cheerleading squads.  In addition to financially supporting the college athletic programs and alumni associations of Dixie College, UNLV, UNR and BYU, he has  provided funds and his influence to organizations such as Pop Warner, Peccole Little League, Red Rock Little League, the NIAA, the Southern Nevada Officials Association, the Southern Nevada High School Football Coaches Association and its Hall of Fame, The Reno Football Camp, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame.
