A native of Henderson, Nevada, Reneé Brown is a trailblazing sports executive whose leadership has left an indelible mark on the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and USA Basketball.
As Senior Vice President and Chief of Basketball Operations and Player Relations at the WNBA, Brown played a pivotal role in the league’s evolution, helping shape it into the longest-running women’s professional sports league in the U.S. Her unparalleled expertise in talent acquisition, collective bargaining and operational excellence contributed to expanding the league’s global footprint and ensuring its sustained success.
Over her remarkable career, Brown has been at the heart of USA Basketball’s unparalleled Olympic dominance. From 1996 to 2016, she played key roles in six Gold-Medal-winning women’s Olympic teams. Brown’s leadership as Assistant Coach for the 1996 National Team, which captured the Gold Medal, set the stage for a legacy of excellence. As Chair of the Selection Committee for the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, she shaped the composition of two more Gold-Medal teams, contributing to the ongoing success of women’s basketball on the world stage. Brown also provided strategic governance as a member of the USA Basketball Board of Directors in 2004 and 2008.
Her coaching journey includes formative roles at the University of Kansas, Stanford University and San Jose State. As an assistant coach under Tara VanDerveer at Stanford, her teams triumphed with an NCAA tournament victory in 1990 and a Final Four appearance in 1991, cementing her place in the fabric of collegiate basketball history.
